The Mets only bullpen need is an early inning situational lefty, I'm sure they'll look to bring a guy in on a one year contract and would prefer it be a minor league deal with an invite. The Mets are very familiar with Ray King, after all who can forget the rotund lefty but more importantly he has been a solid lefty against them for years.
The 34 y/o lefty has spent his entire 10 year major league career in the National league. He has a lifetime ERA of 3.46 with a record of 20-23 in 593 innings.
King put six solid seasons together between 2000-2005 in which his ERA was under four, including a year with the Braves. In 2006 he joined the Rockies and Colorado wasn't kind to him as his ERA soared to 4.43 in 67 appearances. It seems he never recovered from playing in the mile high air in 2007 between the Brewers and Nats he had an ERA over 5.00 in 60 appearances. He only appeared in 11 games (5.68 ERA) in 2008 for the Nats before they re-assigned him and he opted for free agency. He has not appeared in the majors since....
In 2008 in for the Astros AAA team in the Pacific Coast league he posted an ERA of 2.45 in 36 appearances and was named player of the month in August.
Triple-A Round Rock left-hander Ray King and infielders Mark Saccomanno and Tommy Manzella were named Players of the Month for the Express. King posted a 0.82 ERA over 11 relief appearances. source MLB.com
Now he's pitching in winter ball hoping a team in need of a LOOGY notices him and gives him another chance at the majors. He's now pitched in five games with a 0.00 ERA, hitters BA is 0.83 and GO/AO is 2.00.
Left-handed reliever Ray King, who spent a year with the Rockies, is trying to revive his career at age 34.
King is pitching for Escogido in the Dominican Republic this winter, giving teams a chance to scout him. King, who is listed at 6-foot, 250 pounds on the Escogido roster, worked 4 2/3 shutout innings in his first four appearances. source Rocky mountain News
