I've thought for awhile that the Braves could be a dark horse for Derek Lowe, especially after the Peavy trade fell apart and they missed out on both Burnett and Furcal, it would seem they have money to spend. The once vaunted Atlanta rotation isn't nearly as imposing and a case could be made for them needing Lowe more then any team. Lowe would have to be extending his parameters to the east and not just the northeast, I'm not sure if you can consider them a World Series contender but still I could see them making a run. It sounds like the braves are interested but not at what he will cost which seems to have virtually eliminated them from contention unless they drastically change their mind.....
In fact, it doesn't seem like the Braves would be willing to better the rejected three-year, $36 million offer the Mets recently made to Lowe, who stands as the most attractive starting pitcher remaining on the free-agent market. source MLB.com
