No competition for Lowe, get it done already....

After all those reports of the Mets falling behind in the race for Derek Lowe and him being insulted by the initial offer, it doesn't seem like anyone has actually outbid us nor does it appear that anyone is seriously pursuing him. According to Newsday the Mets are confident that they are the highest bidder and are willing to wait Boras out without uping their offer....

The Mets, confident that they have no serious competition for Derek Lowe's services, do not intend to raise their three-year, $36-million offer to the righthander at this time, a person informed of the club's thinking told Newsday. source Newsday

It seems like the entire industry just wants this dance to end, with what appears to be an inevitable conclusion. The market place is waiting for Lowe to sign so the rest of the pitchers can establish their value. Fox Sports Dayn Perry basically said tonight in an article about the remaining free agents, get it done already...

The terminally disappointing Mets need help in the rotation. Johan Santana is the best pitcher in baseball, but behind him there's John Maine (coming off shoulder surgery), Mike Pelfrey (useful but likely to regress a bit in 2009), Jon Niese (has potential but will be a 22-year-old rookie), and, um, Brandon Knight? Duaner Sanchez? As you can see, the Mets rotation could use some certainty. Certainty, thy name is Derek Lowe. source Fox Sports
