Sunday's Lowe and Perez rumors....

This is all third party information so take it for what it's worth, according to a blog called Fake Teams they are reporting about a baseball show on XM satellite radio. The host of the show is a reputable sports commentator, Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton but I did not hear the show directly or the context of the information.
Atlanta is considering offering Derek Lowe 4 yrs $65 million. Do the Mets counter?
Mets held a 3 hr meeting with Oliver Perez to decide whether they make him an offer, or increase their offer to Derek Lowe. I think they go with Perez. source

Even in a bidding war for Lowe it seems like a very high number and I can't see Atlanta jumping that high. There is also a report today by the Boston Globe that the Braves could turn their attention to Ben Sheets, who's price is rock bottom. If the Mets do feel like they aren't committed enough to Lowe to engage in a full blown bidding war then it would make sense for them to begin talks with Perez.

As Newsday reported earlier today the Mets are confident that they will land one of the two starters and while I'd prefer Lowe if they end up with Ollie they'll have a decent rotation. However, if somehow Boras dukes them out of both we will have a severely weakened rotation....

The Mets remain confident that they'll eventually land one of their top two choices to upgrade the starting rotation - either Derek Lowe or Oliver Perez. A survey of the baseball landscape indicates that the Mets' confidence is well-founded. source Newsday
