I've got to be honest, while I have no idea how it will play out in the clubhouse after Art Howe and Willie Randolph it's refreshing to hear honest answers and not cliches, especially when the honesty is expressing the same frustration we fans are feeling....Dan Warthen let it be known that he's not happy with Oliver Perez's conditioning. Warthen believes that Perez came to camp in better shape then he is in now and that he took a step back during the WBC. In other words without anyone to baby sit him and ensure he maintained his side sessions and mechanics, Ollie probably did little more then the two horrible starts in over two weeks. Warthen believes his arm strength isn't where it should be at this point in spring training and that Ollie has gained weight. So much for married life maturing him, this is why I would have over paid for Derek Lowe ( this spring 4 starts/ 2-0 /3.94 ERA) , Consistency.....
"He's out of shape," Warthen said after the Mets' 10-6 Grapefruit League loss to the Tigers. "He came into camp in good shape. I thought he was throwing the ball very well when he left camp. I was a little reticent when he left here [for the WBC], and my worries have come to fruition." source NY Post
