Looks like NL West is preparing for life after Molina...

The Giants expressed interest in retaining Bengie Molina on a one year low base salary contract, likewise the Rockies were looking to keep Yorvit Torrealba on a similar contract.

There seems to be indications that both teams are moving on to plan B.

With the Mets identifying Molina as their #1 catching target, they could have already scared off the Giants as they're now rumored to be interested in Torrealba.

Now that Torrealba could be returning to SF the Rockies are rumored to be looking at Brian Schneider (source MLBTR).

Molina is said to call a good game and keep things calm for a young pitcher, he has a solid bat but never walks and his knees are a concern; over all, he'd be a decent signing but not one without risks...

Conceivably, if the Giants signed Torrealba, their backup catcher from 2001-05, he would handle the bulk of the playing time until Posey developed sufficiently. Melvin Roman, Torrealba's agent, confirmed the Giants' interest. "They called and asked about him," Roman said Monday. "But as of right now I have no other comment." source MLB Blogs Giants
