NYBD reported just over a week ago that they had a source who informed them that Carl Crawford wasn't a happy camper in Tampa. According to their source Crawford was dissatisfied with the Rays failure to renegotiate a long term extension while picking up his 10MM option.Joe Smith of Tampa Bay.com disputed the rumor with quotes from Crawford and his agent, Smith's response seemed unusually scathing towards NYBD.
Now Joe Smith in a section called trade winds is reporting an "industry source" has informed him that the Mets have inquired about Carl Crawford. I guess Mr. Smith un-named source is more credible in his eyes then Mr. Russo's ( not my fight, just seemed kinda ironic from the outside looking in)...
Onto Crawford, the 28 y/o left handed outfielder is a lifetime .295 BA and can steal over 50 bases a season. He is under contract only for 2010 in which he's owed 10M. Having Crawford and Reyes at the top of the line-up could be the best table setting tandem in the league. However, I think he will cost way too much in prospects to get a deal done, that is if Tampa even makes him available.
Mets and Braves have inquired about All-Star LF Carl Crawford. The Rays have said they're interested in discussing a long-term deal with Crawford, who is eligible to be a free agent after the 2010 season. source Tampa Bay.com
