But what the Mets learned in 2008 was that you need a back-up plan at closer in case of an injury, with J.J. Putz gone the Mets once again have untested players attempting to become the set-up man and eventually the closer...
Brain Stokes has 7 career saves, Pedro Feliciano 13 career saves, Sean Green 11 career saves and Elmer Dessens 11 minor league saves.
The Mets either need to bring in as many arms that could close as possible such as Kiko Calero (7 career saves) or sign a legitimate set-up man with closer experience like Saito ( 83 career saves)....
According to Sponichi, Takashi Saito has eight teams interested, including the White Sox, Cubs, Braves and Mets. The Braves had some interest in Saito way back in 2002 but he wound up remaining with Yokohama. source NPB Tracker
