As I see it there are four issues in play with Carlos Delgado, which makes it understandable that their torn over what direction to take.1) They are going to be hard pressed to replace a healthy Delgado's production in the middle of the line-up.
2) At 37 y/o his first two seasons with the Mets were plagued with nagging injuries and last year he lost the entire season, can Carlos remain healthy enough to be a productive player.
3) Since 2006 Delgado has been the unofficial captain of this team, is it time to move on in a different direction.
4) What will he cost and will it be worth the actual production he provides.
Omar Minaya will meet with Delgado this weekend at Carlos Beltran's benefit, Beltran has been very vocal in support of Delgado returning. While there doesn't appear to be a plan to make a decision on Delgado until they see him play in Mid-December, it does appear that they are more interested in him then they were Pedro last year...
Omar Minaya will have a chance to talk face to face with Carlos Delgado on Saturday as part of a Mets contingent headed to Puerto Rico for a fundraiser to benefit Carlos Beltran's baseball academy. source Newsday
