With Henry Blanco on board at a mere 1.5MM for the season, the Mets finally have the stand out defensive catcher that they have been missing for years. Struggling pitchers will have a friend in Henry and base runners will have someone to fear with 43 % CS rate.I have no miss-conceived notion that he's a starter but if they land Molina they will have the perfect balance of offense and defense at the position.
What I did not know was that Johan Santana wanted Blanco on board, he also caught K-Rod in the WBC, all of which probably made things move much quicker in the front office...
A 12-year veteran, Blanco, 38, is friendly with the Mets’ ace, Johan Santana, who helped recruit him, according to the Venezuelan newspaper El Universal. Blanco, who should have an advantage over Omir Santos and the newly-signed Chris Coste for the backup job, is renowned for his defense. He batted .235 with six homers last season for San Diego and is a .228 career hitter with seven teams. source NY Times
