Mets claim Jason Pridie

Multiple reports indicate that the Mets have claimed Jason Pridie off waivers from the Twins. The Rays drafted Pridie out of high school in 2002 and the Twins have obtained him twice form Tampa. In 2005 Minnesota grabbed him in the rule five draft but had to return him at the end of spring, they then grabbed him in a 2007 trade involving Delmon Young, Matt Garza and Jason Bartlett along with others.

For these two clubs who live off their farm systems, to be fighting over this kid makes me excited. In 2004-2005 Baseball America listed him as the best defensive outfielder in the Rays organization.

Joe DeMayo of NYBD has a great profile on Pridie, here.
Capable of playing all three outfield positions, Pridie will battle Chris Carter, Nick Evans and top prospect Fernando Martinez for the fifth outfielder's job out of camp. Whoever makes the team will presumably have a job only until starting center fielder Carlos Beltran recovers from right knee surgery. source MLB.com
