Mike Jacobs returns to the Mets

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN is reporting that the Mets are close to a minor league deal for Mike Jacobs. The power hitting 1B started his career with the Mets in 2005 hitting 11 HRs in 30 games before being traded for Carlos Delgado prior to the 2006 season.

He spent three years with the Marlins, his best offensive season was in 2008 when he hit 32 HRs and 92 RBIs. The Marlins traded him to the Royals for Leo Nunez where he struggled as a DH.

Jacobs is a butcher in the field, strikes out a lot without walking much but he's the most experienced left handed power bat the Mets have in camp and may steal the spot Chris Carter hoped to grab.

The Mets are close to agreement on a minor league deal with (former Met) Mike Jacobs. He'll go to camp on a non-roster invite. source Jerry Crasnick twitter
