Who's left who could help...

Joel Sherman takes a look at who's left who could help bolster the roster. First of all I couldn't agree more with Sherman's premiss, that you can't identify multiple areas that need improvement and then not improve any of them and say well were happy with who we had to begin with.

Sherman says for about 12MM, which would still put them under budget, they should grab Russell Branyan, Rod Barajas, Felipe Lopez, Kiko Calero and Jarrod Washburn. I'd probably switch a few of those players; Looper for Washburn, and Smoltz for Calero. But I completely agree, it almost feels like they could get their main targets so despite there being improvements available at bargain prices they just quit on the off-season.

For roughly $12 million, the Mets could still probably have catcher Rod Barajas, first baseman Russell Branyan, reliever Kiko Calero, utilityman Felipe Lopez and starter Jarrod Washburn to deepen every facet of their roster. Obviously, they are not signing them all, but they should be thinking of some because source NY Post
