Here's a trade idea for a back-up SS...

Ok, this is a little thinking out of the box and it isn't a perfect fit but it's at least an idea. I've heard a lot of Mets fans who were concerned over rushing the youngster Ruben Tejada and weren't enamored with Alex Cora/ Anderson Hernandez as the full time SS.

Today, before the Jose Reyes news broke MLBTR posted that the Pirates may look to trade or release Ramon Vazquez. Maybe a platoon of Cora and Vazquez would be better then throwing Tejada to the wolves or using Ahern who looked awful at short as the backup.

The Mets need to move a catcher anyway and the Pirates based on their depth chart don't seem to have that much depth at the position. What about a swap of Santos for Vazquez.

Ramon Vazquez is a 33 y/o left handed utility infielder who is owed 2MM for the season. He has 275 MLB gms at SS, 212 gms. at 3B, 165 gms. at 2B and 11 gms. at 1B. He hit only .230 last year as he battled knee injuries but the year before he hit; .290/.365/.430/.795...
"They told me I'm not on the team right now," the Pirates' veteran utility infielder said, visibly displeased after a 3-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday night at McKechnie Field. "If I don't do well enough, I'm going to be gone. I don't know what that means, if that's a trade or what. I'm playing for myself right now. All I know is that I feel really good health-wise for the first time in a long time, and I'm ready for whatever happens."source Pittsburgh Post Gazette
