Bowman designated for assignment

The Mets broke camp with five players who did not have spots on the 40 man roster; Jacobs, Catalanotto, Tejada, Mejia and Takahashi. They had three spots available and Nelson Figueroa made a fourth spot when he didn't make the team, but the fifth spot wasn't so easy to find.

Rosters were due in at 3pm on Sunday but there wasn't word until this morning on who was being designated. Would it be Kunz the struggling potential closer, Everts the hard throwing reliever, Pridie the speedy outfielder or someone else.

The Mets elected to designate Shawn Bowman, it's the right move but after all that Bowman has gone through I really like to see him be successful in the Mets org. Bowman was the top 3B prospect until he suffered through multiple back injuries, just being able to playing ball is an accomplishment, let alone coming to major league spring training and holding his own.

Bowman is an impressive defensive 3B who also holds his own at 1B and LF, he didn't hit at AA until repeating the league which puts his bat in question on the major league level but the biggest concern will also be whether his back will hold up...
