Mets re-sign Jack Egbert

The Mets have resigned Jack Egbert to a minor league deal, if the name sounds vaguely familiar it's because Egbert was briefly in the Mets organization.  In 2009 Egbert had a cup of coffee with the team that drafted him in 2004, the Chicago White Sox.  That audition didn't go so well; two outings, eight runs and a 27.00 ERA.

That Sept. he was removed from the CWS 40 man roster and claimed by the Mets, but the Mets only kept him on the roster until Feb. The second time he made it through waivers and as a local kid decided to accept assignment to Buffalo, however; an injury cost him all of 2010.

Looking at Minor league ball, the first time he appeared was in 2007 in which Jon Sickel's called him a "sleeper swingman".  The next year he rose to #4 on the White Sox prospect list but after posting a 4.65 ERA in 22 starts in his first exposure to AAA and dropped all the way to #18 on the 2009 list.
