The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers will play the 1st game of a 3 game series tonight at Citi Field. The Major League Baseball controlled Dodgers come into tonight's game with a record of 15-17, good enough for 3rd place in the NL West. The Dodgers are lead by star RF Andre Ethier who brings a 29 game hit streak into this weekends series. Ethier has been suffering from a sore elbow and was questionable coming into tonight's game. However, he says he feels fine and will be in the starting lineup tonight.
The Mets will send Jon Niese (1-4, 4.71) to the mound Friday. The left-hander has allowed two earned runs in each of his last three starts but lost for the second time in that span Saturday, 2-1 to Philadelphia after pitching 6.1 innings. Niese has pitched better than his 1-4 record would indicate. He has been victim to a Mets offense that has scored 3 runs or less in 5 of Niese's 6 starts. Niese has not faced the Dodgers in his career.
On the mound for the Dodgers will be RHP Hiroki Kuroda (3-2, 3.10 ERA). Kuroda is coming off a solid performance against the Padres on Saturday, allowing two runs through seven innings before the bullpen faltered in a 5-2 loss. The right-hander went 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA in his first four starts against the Mets, then pitched eight innings for a 2-0 victory July 22 in his most recent appearance versus New York. David Wright (6-12) and Jose Reyes (5-12) have both had great career success against Kuroda.
