Pre-Game: Game 35 - New York Mets VS Colorado Rockies

The Mets and Rockies will open a 3-game series tonight at Coors Field in Colorado. The Rockies dominated the Mets at Citi Field by sweeping a 4 games series in mid-April and sent the Mets into a tail spin on route to a season worst 7 game losing streak. The Rockies looked unstoppable during that series and people were ready to anoint them the early season favorites in the NL. Since then things have turned sour for the Rockies as they have gone 6-11 since their sweep over the Mets, and have lost 7 of their last 10, and 4 in a row. The Mets are coming off a homestand in which they went 3-3 VS 2 NL West teams. After losing two in a row to the Giants, the Mets salvaged the final game of that series and won the 1st 2 games from the Dodgers to put together a mini 3 game winning streak. That streak however ended yesterday as the Mets were stymied by Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw and lost the final game of the homestand. It is pivotal that the Mets get off to a good start in Colorado in order to have a successful road trip.

On the mound for the Mets in Game 1 of the Colorado series will be LHP Chris Capuano (2-3, 5.40). Despite 2 loses, Capuano has pitched fairly well over his last two starts surrendering six runs and 18 hits over 12 innings in losses to Washington and San Francisco. Capuano was outdueled by Tim Lincecum on Wednesday, allowing two runs and eight hits in 6.2 innings of a 2-0 defeat.

Taking the hill for the Rockies tonight will be RHP Jhoulys Chacin (4-2, 2.85 ERA) who will be making his first career start VS the Mets. Chacin ended a personal two game skid with a strong outing at Arizona on Wednesday. The right-hander lasted seven innings, allowing two runs and three hits in a 6-4 win. Mets hitters have very limited experience against Chacin. Only Chin-Lung Hu has more than 1 at-bat VS the Rockies right-hander.
