Pre-Game: Game 38 - New York Mets VS Houston Astros

The Mets open a 3 game set with the Astros tonight at Minute Maid Park. After taking 2 of 3 on the road from the Colorado Rockies, the Mets will look to continue their quest towards the .500 mark against a struggling Houston Astros team. With Ike Davis now on the Dl for the next 15 days, the Mets need several players to step up their game. Carlos Beltran did just that yesterday as he blasted 3 2-run HR's en route to a 9-5 win. He will look to continue his torrid pace in a place he is very familiar with. Astros' fans hold a personal vendetta against Beltran after he decided to sign with the Mets in 2005 instead of staying in Houston.

On the mound for the Mets in Game 1 of the series will be RHP Dillon Gee (2-0, 3.80 ERA). Gee will be making his second straight start in place of Chris Young who is now out for the year with a shoulder injury. During his brief career with the Mets, Gee has shown the ability to pitch on the Major League level. He is not scared to throw any of his pitches on any count. Gee has never faced the Houston Astros.

On the mound for the Astros is young RHP Bud Norris (2-2, 3.16 ERA). The right-handers is coming off his first loss since his season debut on April 3. He struck out 9 in 7 IP against Pittsburgh on Saturday, but allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in a 6-1 loss. Norris started against the Mets on April 20th at Citi Field and allowed 3 ER, 10 hits, and struck out 6 in 6 IP (No Decision). For his career against the Mets, Norris is 1-1 with a 4.82 ERA over 18.2 IP.
