Pre-Game: Game 39 - New York Mets VS Houston Astros

The Mets will look to extend their winning streak to 4 games and win their 3rd consecutive series when they take on the Houston Astros this afternoon at Minute Maid Park. The Mets came from 4 runs behind in a dramatic win last night that saw the struggling David Wright hit a 2 out 2-run HR to put the Mets ahead in the Top of the 8th. The Mets also got a jolt of energy when former prized prospect Fernando Martinez launched his second career HR over the RF wall to help the Mets creep to within 1 run.

The Mets will hand the ball to R.A. Dickey (1-4, 4.50 ERA) in hopes of extending their winning streak. Dickey has struggled thus far in 2011 and probably had his worst outing of the season his last time out when he gave up 4 runs and 10 hits in a 4-2 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon. He will look to rebound against a struggling Houston team that has already beaten Dickey in 2011. The knuckleballer went 8 innings against Houston at Citi Field on April 20, yielding 4 runs and 8 hits in a 4-3 loss. For his career against the Astros he is 1-1, with a 2.49 ERA in 3 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Taking the hill for the Astros will be LHP J.A. Happ. Happ has struggled terribly so far in 2011 as he is 2-4, with a 5.75 ERA. The Mets have had success against Happ in the past, including a 9-1 win at Citi Field in which the Mets pounded Happ for 6 runs and 6 hits over 4.2 IP. For his career against the Mets Happ is 1-2, with a 5.17 ERA over 31.1 IP.
