Pre-Game: Game 43 - Washington Nationals VS New York Mets

The Mets and Nationals will conclude their brief 2-game series this afternoon at Citi Field. The Mets took the opener of the series last night in monsoon type conditions behind the strong pitching performance of Jon Niese. With last night's win, the Mets and Nationals are now tied for 4th place in NL East standings with a record of 20-22.

The Mets will hand the ball to RHP Dillon Gee (2-0, 4.44) in hopes of completing the 2 game sweep. Gee will look to bounce back from a rough outing Friday night in Houston in which he allowed 4 runs in 5 IP while taking the loss. Gee will be making his first start against the Nationals since his ML debut last September in which he allowed only 1 ER through 7 IP.

On the mound for the Nationals will be veteran right-hander Livan Hernandez (3-5, 3.92). Hernandez beat the Mets 4-3 on April 28th when he allowed only 3 ER over 8 innings. Since being released from the Mets in August of 2009, Hernandez has gone 2-1, with a 1.96 ERA VS New York. For his career against the Mets, Hernandez is 13-14, with a 4.14 ERA accross 247.2 IP.
