Roster Moves: Beato & Tejada In -- Iggy & Hu Out

Following last night's demoralizing 2-1 loss in 11 innings to the wild card leading Florida Marlins, Sandy Alderson acted to shake things up.  The moves included the following:

1) Pedro Beato has been activated from the DL and will rejoin the team tonight in New York.  Beato has been on the DL as the result of tendinitis, following what was probably the Mets most consistent play out of the bullpen in the young season.  His addition, should he return to form, is a welcome one.

2) Ruben Tejada has been promoted from Buffalo and will like become the team's 2nd basemen for the time being, giving the Met's other options in the infield.  Tejada, who has spent time with the big club before is a sight for sore eyes and undoubtedly a welcome offensive replacement for Hu.

In order to make room for these additions, the Mets removed the following players from the 25 man roster:

1) Chin-lung Hu, who had an opportunity to win the game for the Mets last night, has been outrighted to Buffalo.  Hu has played minimally this year and his play has mainly consisted of nothing more than failed pinch hit attempts and late game defensive replacements.

2) Ryota Igarashi has been demoted to Buffalo as well.  Iggy took the loss in last nights game after entering in the top of the 11th and struggling with his command.  He eventually took a full count against Marlins reliever, Burke Bradenhop, before grooving a fastball that Bradenhop lined into centerfield scoring the game winning run.

** Mets GM, Sandy Alderson, also stated that should the Mets be force to put David Wright on the disabled list, they would call up Nick Evans from Buffalo.  You'll remember that following the completion of spring training, Evan had the clear waivers in order to remain with the club.  A similar situation would take place should the team be forced to demote him once more.  If he clears waivers again, he does not have to report to Buffalo and would have the option of becoming a free agent.  The team is awaiting a second opinion on Wrights back, but it is clear that they cannot afford to play with a short bench in the interim.
