Pre-Game 77: New York Mets @ Texas Rangers

The New York Mets will look to avoid dropping to 3 games under .500 today as they oppose the defending American League Champion Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas at 4:10 PM. Coming off the heels of an essential blowout loss last night, the Mets will look to bounce back and remain within the 1-2 game deficit of .500 that they've been holding onto for several weeks.

Jonathan Niese(6-6, 3.70) will take the mound for the Amazings this afternoon coming off of his first bad start since May. Niese lasted only 4 innings while surrendering 4 runs and 8 hits to the Los Angeles Angels at Citi Field. Terry Collins noted a potential reason for Niese's struggles was the lack of curveballs thrown, which had attributed to much of his success over the past month. He'll look to get back on track today while looking for his 6th win of the season.

Niese and the Mets will oppose an early American League Rookie of the Year contender in Alexi Ogando(7-2, 2.66). Ogando has lost both of his previous two outings after starting the year an impressive 7-0. Ogando allowed only 1 run in 5 innings against the Atlanta Braves during his last outing while still taking the loss but was roughed up by the Yankees on June 14th, being bombed for 6 runs in only 1 2/3 innings. At home Ogando has been untouchable this year, already 5-0 while posting a 1.91 ERA.

Jason Bay and Justin Turner will both sit today due to minor injuries. Bay is struggling with a stiff neck and Turner's thumb "flared up" according to Adam Rubin.
