Pre-Game: Game 79 - New York Mets @ Detroit Tigers

The Mets continue their interleague schedule tonight as they open a 3 game series with the Tigers in Detroit, Michigan. The Mets are coming off an impressive series win against the defending American League champion Texas Rangers which saw them score 22 runs over the last 2 games. The Mets are now 5-1-1 in their last 7 series. The Tigers are also playing well as they have won 3 in a row and have moved ahead of the Indians to claim 1st place in the AL Central. With a win tonight the Mets will move above the .500 for the first time since April 6th (3-2).

On the mound for the Mets will be right-handed knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (3-7, 3.76). Dickey is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in his last three starts overall, but pitched well enough to win in Wednesday's 3-2, 13-inning victory over Oakland. He yielded one run and three hits with nine strikeouts in eight innings, only to see closer Francisco Rodriguez blow the save in the 9th.

Taking the hill for the Tigers will be right-hander Rick Porcello (6-5, 4.50). Porcello really struggled in his last 2 outing as he has allowed 14 ER over 7.2 IP during those starts. After bursting on to the seen as a rookie by winning 14 games in 2009, Porcello has come back to earth in 10' and 11' by only going 16-17. Porcello has never faced the Mets in his career.
