David Wright To Return Tonight

As anticipated all week, David Wright will make his return to the lineup this week when the Mets take on the Florida Marlins in Miami at 7:10 pm.  Its been a long road back for Wright, who has been sidelined since May 16th with a stress fracture in his back.  Coming off what is unquestionable the longest injury related layoff of his career, it will be interesting to see how David responds when he is reinserted into what has been a surprisingly successful lineup in his absence.

Over the past week, Wright has taken part in six rehab games with the Port St. Lucie Mets and experienced no set backs.  Over that span, when including simulated games, Wright has had 33 at bats.  In his 27 game related plate appearances, Wright has hit for a .476 average with three doubles and six walks.  Terry Collins has stated that he plans to bat Wright in the clean up spot upon his return, undoubtedly hoping to spark an otherwise power deprived lineup.
