Others Pick Up The Slack While Reyes Struggles

Over the course of the Mets current five-game winning streak, nearly every one has contributed in a big way. The one exception to that rule has surprisingly been Jose Reyes, who has cooled off considerably in recent days. Here are some production numbers for the past five games:

Jose Reyes 22AB, 4H, 5R, 2RBI, .181BA
David Wright 23AB, 11H, 6R, 6RBI, .478BA
Daniel Murphy 22AB, 11H, 7R, 6RBI, .500BA
Justin Turner 18AB, 6H, 4R, 0RBI, .333BA
Angel Pagan 14AB, 6H, 3R, 5RBI, .429BA
Jason Bay 23AB, 7H, 2R, 6RBI, .304BA

Over that same five game time frame, the the Mets have scored 38 runs on 60 hits, so it is no surprise that there are several hot bats in the lineup right now. However, this most recent stretch, at lease temporarily disproves the old notion that "as Jose goes, so do the Mets."

The Mets will need to continue their hot as they look to gain additional ground in the Wild Card race. Last night, although the Braves one, they were able to tie the Pirates for fourth in the race and gain a game on the Diamondbacks who now sit only two games ahead in the race to catch the Braves. Here are the current Wild Card standings:
