Pre-Game: Game 96 - St. Louis Cardinals VS New York Mets

The Mets will open a 3 game series with the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at Citi Field. The Mets, who are now 9.5 games back in the Wild Card race need to start playing better if they want to remain somewhat relevant. The Mets will get help tonight as Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran both return to the starting lineup.

On the mound for the Mets will Dillon Gee (8-3, 3.76). The rookie right-hander has lost his last two starts while allowing 10 runs in 12.2 innings. He's dropped his last two home games by giving up eight runs in 11 innings after winning his previous four decisions there with a 1.77 ERA in seven games, five starts. Gee has never faced the Cardinals in his career.

Toeing the rubber for the Cards will be right-hander Kyle Lohse (8-6, 3.32). Lohse has struggled as of late as he is 1-4 with a 5.50 ERA in his last six starts. The Mets have always been a problem for Lohse as he has a career record of 2-3, with a 5.85 ERA against New York.
