Pre-Game: Game 97 - St. Louis Cardinals VS New York Mets

The New York Mets(48-48) will look to win their second in a row against the St. Louis Cardinals(50-46) tonight at 7:10 PM ET at Citi Field. Bolstered by the returns of both Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes, the Mets were able to win the first game of their series last night 4-2 behind a strong effort from Dillon Gee.

Tonight, the Mets will send R.A Dickey(4-8, 3.70 ERA) to the mound coming off of a losing effort against Philadelphia in which he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in 7 innings. Dickey is looking for his first win since June 28th against the Detroit Tigers. Although his poor outing against Philadelphia led to a Mets loss, Dickey has pitched to a 2.80 ERA over his last 10 games. Dickey has also fared far better during night games, holding down a 3.46 ERA in 12 night starts.

Opposing Dickey will be Kyle McClellan(6-6, 4.24 ERA), who's coming off a strong losing effort against Arizona. McClellan has been rocky after a strong April, posting a 5.12 ERA from the start of June.

The New York Mets showed how crucial Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes were to the lineup last night, both having strong offensive showings by combining for 5 hits and scoring 2 of the Mets 4 runs. Unfortunately, the hot stove has been abuzz the past 48 hours about where, not if, Carlos Beltran will land by July 31st. The Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers all appear likely landing spots for Beltran.
