Rumor: Jose Reyes

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, indications are the Mets have begun, or will soon begin "secret talks" with Jose Reyes' representatives in hopes of reaching an agreement in the coming weeks.

Analysis: This is great to hear except for one problem. It is no longer a secret since it has been revealed. According to the report, Reyes, his agents, and the Mets stated in June that all contract talks would be held off until completion of the 2011 season in order to create a "smoke screen" and limit the amount of questions regarding a possible extension, meanwhile a deal between the two sides is really being secretly negotiated. I wonder how both sides will try and deflect questions regarding these "secret negotiations". In any case, an agreement between the two would be in the best interest of the Mets.
