Around The Minors From 8/11/2011


Short Season Rookie Ball - Brooklyn Cyclones (30-24, 2nd place) - The Cyclones split a double-header with Batavia yesterday, winning the first game 3-1, while losing the second game 2-1. In Game 1, lead-off man Daniel Muno set the tone for the Cyclones offense as he went 3-4, with a 2B and a run scored. 2011 5th round draft pick (162 overall) Jack Leathersich earned his first career save by pitching the final 2 innings of the Cyclones 2-1 win.

In Game 2 of the double-dip the Cyclones offense was silenced, recording only 4 total hits and 1 lone run. 1B Cole Frenzel went 1-2, with a BB in the loss.


Single-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (24-14, 1st place) - The Sand Gnats defeated Greenville by the score of 5-3. Lead-off man Darrell Ceciliani was 2-4, with an RBI in the contest.

Single-A Advanced - St. Lucie Mets (25-22, 4th place) - St. Lucie defeated Jupiter by the score of 14-6. The Mets offense exploded for 4 HR's in the game (Marte, J (6), Flores, W (9), Welch, S (15), Sandoval, R (7)) and lead-off hitter Pedro Zapata set the tone by going 4-6, with a 2B, 3B, and 4 runs scored.

Double-A - Binghamton Mets (49-69, 6th place) - The B-Mets lost to Trenton by the score of 8-5. In the loss, DH Brahiam Maldonado went 4-5 and 2B Reese Havens went 2-4, with a BB.

Triple-A - Buffalo Bisons (49-69, 5th place ) - The Bisons defeated Syracuse by the score of 3-2. SS Jordany Valdespin went 1-4, with and RBI in the win.
