Around The Minors From 8/22/2011


Short Season Rookie Ball - Brooklyn Cyclones (3-26, 2nd place) - The Cyclones defeated Tri-City by the score of 3-2. LF Javier Rodriguez went 2-4, with a 2B and 2 RBI.

Single-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (35-22, 1st place) - The Sand Gnats lost to Rome by the score of 4-3. SS Wilfredo Tovar went 2-4, with a 2B and a Run scored in the loss.

Single-A Advanced - St. Lucie Mets (28-26, 4th place) - The St. Lucie Mets were idle yesterday.

Double-A - Binghamton Mets (57-71, 5th place) - The B-Mets defeated Erie by the score of 2-0 last night. Top prospect RHP Matt Harvey started for the B-Mets and was outstanding. Harvey threw 7 shutout innings while allowing only 5 hits and two walks. He struck out 5 Erie hitters in the win.

Triple-A - Buffalo Bisons (57-72, 5th place ) -
The Bisons defeated Columbus by the score of 6-4. 2B Jordany Valdespin had a huge day offensively as he went 2-4, with a 2B, 3 RBI, and a Runs scored. Miguel Batista started for the Bison and was somewhat effective. Through 5.1 IP, he allowed 4 ER on 9 hits and 2 walks. He also struck out 2. Batista could very well be promoted to the Major League club next week to make a spot start in the Mets upcoming double-header with the Marlins.
