Injury News: Santana In New York To Be Reevaluated

As previously mentioned, Johan Santana was scratched this week due to what was originally described as 'not feeling as strong as he would have liked'. After initially pushing his next scheduled start off one day, it was later scratched all together when it was disclosed that Santana is experiencing discomfort in his surgically repaired shoulder.

Today, Santana is in New York to visit his doctors at the Hospital for Specials Surgery, where it seems the Mets should have their own wing.  We'll bring you more on this when the information is available, which likely won't be until later tonight, if not tomorrow prior to the game whenever Sandy Alderson next addresses the media.

My gut tells me this could be the last we see of Santana this season.  With the team struggling to remain on the outer edges of the Wild Card race, there is no reason to have him back this season.  If this discomfort is not deemed to be catastrophic, I would imagine that Johan's rehab plan will be slowed anyway, to avoid similar instances going forward.  Lets just hope he hasn't done any further damage to his shoulder that would prevent him from being ready for Spring Training, because this team really needs him back.
