Mets Lose, Streak Now 5

The Mets lost today to the Diamondbacks by the score of 5-3 and were swept in their 3 game series with Arizona. The Mets losing streak has now grown to 5 in a row as they fall to 4 games below .500.

Game Notes:
  • Angel Pagan went 3-5
  • Lucas Duda went 2-3 including his 4th HR of the year.
  • Capuano was serviceable today, allowing 4 runs over 6 innings while taking the loss.
There were two key turning points to today's loss. First, in the Top of the 7th the Mets had the tying run at 3rd with 1 out. However, D'Backs P Micah Owings fanned David Wright and Jason Bay ending the threat. Then in the Bot of the 8th, Terry Collins turned to Ryota Igarashi to hold the deficit to 1 run. However, Igarashi was terrible as he hit the lead-off hitter, walked the second hitter, allowed a single, and then walked home the D'Backs insurance run.

This was a very frustrating game to watch. The at-bat by David Wright in the 7th was awful. Owings threw him the same pitch 3 straight times; however, Wright was unable to lay off it. I think it is time to send Igarashi back to Triple-A as he clearly does not belong in the big leagues.

The Mets head to San Diego tomorrow to take on the Padres. Game time is scheduled for 10:05 PM. The starting pitchers will be R.A. Dickey for the Mets and Aaron Harang for the Padres.
