MiLB News: Zack Wheeler Makes First Start With Mets

Newly acquired pitching prospect, Zack Wheeler, made his first start since being traded for Carlos Beltran last week.

1st: Possibly due to some butterflies, Wheeler staggered out of the shoot in his first start, allowing a triple and three singles as the Jays went up 3-0.

2nd: Wheeler settled in nicely, striking out two and pitching a scoreless inning.

3rd: More of the same from Wheeler as he collected his third strikeout of the game and another scoreless inning.

4th: Wheeler's final inning saw him concede his fourth run of the game, however he did pick up a fourth strike out.

Final Stat Line: 4.0 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 4 SO, 0 BB, 82 Pitches

I didn't watch the game, so I can't honestly comment about how well he did or didn't pitch. However, I think it may be safe to assume that nerves could have played a part in his shaky first inning. At the end of the day, I'm happy to see that he collected himself and pitched well for the rest of his outing and also that he didn't walk a soul! Also important, it was noted that he consistently hit 95mph on the radar gun. We'll have to wait and see what happens over the next few weeks to get a good feel for what he's made of.
