News: Johan Santana's Next Start Pushed Back

Mets' GM Sandy Alderson announced today that Johan Santana will not make his next scheduled start on Wednesday for Port St. Lucie. Santana reportedly did not feel as 'strong' as he would have liked today and as such the team has decided to push the start back.

Alderson doesn't seem particularly alarmed about the situation, indicating that Santana would likely only been held back one day and pitch on Thursday instead.

This isn't particularly alarming news. It should be noted that National's pitcher, Chein-Ming Wang, needed more than 18 months to recover from a similar surgery. Furthermore, with the Mets on the outer edge of the Wild Card race there is absolutely no reason to rush Santana back at all. I suspect that he will pitch when able and if there is any doubt, he'll be held back. Getting back eventually will be much better than not at all.
