Nick Evans Is Back... Again

Following Friday night's loss to the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets promptly optioned catcher, Mike Nickeas to Triple-A Buffalo in exchange for Nick Evans who just became eligible to rejoin the team since the most recent time he was designated for assignment.

Evans, who has been designated for assignment several times this season remains out of options and would once again have to pass through waivers should his services at the Major League level no longer be needed.  Nickeas had been called up to fill the void left by traded All-Star, Carlos Beltran.  At that time, Evans was not available to rejoin the Mets as he was only six days into the mandatory two week waiting period when a player successfully passes through waivers.

There is a semi-decent chance that this could be a permanent move for Evans, as the Mets have a need for an outfielder and Evans can also play first base.  Should he remain with the team through season's end, it will be his longest trip to the Majors since 2008.
