Post Game: Mets Fall To Braves 4-1

The New York Mets(55-56) were dealt a huge blow tonight at the hands of the Atlanta Braves(65-48) as they fell to the Wild Card leaders 4-1.

R.A Dickey(5-10, 3.72 ERA) allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 7 great innings of work, holding the Braves without a hit until the third inning. Dickey was hurt by another poor offensive effort from the Mets, who scored only 1 run on 4 hits, leaving 8 men on base and going 0-4 with runners in scoring position.

Tim Hudson(11-7, 3.22 ERA) picked up his 11th win on the season and 276th of his career as he limited the Mets to 1 run on 3 hits in 7 innings. Hudson allowed a 1st inning run, a David Wright double off of a hanging slider that Daniel Murphy was able to score from 1st on.

Boiling Points:
  • The Mets have now dropped 5 in a row after picking themselves up to a season best 4 games over .500. The Mets now sit under .500, tied with the Florida Marlins for 3rd in the National League East
  • Jose Reyes continues to struggle at the plate, going 0-4 and leaving a man on base. Reyes continues to uppercut the ball instead of driving the ball and getting it on the ground. Reyes was robbed twice in left field by Constanza, who made two great plays to save the Braves from further damage.
  • Josh Thole, Angel Pagan, Lucas Duda and Justin Turner all failed to record hits, with Angel Pagan notably striking out on a 3-2 pitch in the dirt in the first inning with David Wright on second.
  • David Wright had half of the Mets hits tonight, a double and a single to collect his first two hits of the home stand.
  • Tim Byrdak and Ryota Igarashi both allowed a run in relief of R.A Dickey to put the game out of reach.
  • The Mets left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 4th inning.
The New York Mets will look to bounce back tomorrow against the Atlanta Braves at 7:10 PM ET at Citi Field.
