Post Game: Mets Lose More Than Rubber Match In 6-5 Loss To Braves

This afternoon the Mets took the to field looking to salvage the rubber game of their series with the Atlanta Braves, however it wasn't to be. An early omen to the way the afternoon would go was Jose Reyes being pulled from the game in the bottom of the second with stiffness in his previously injured left hamstring. Unfortunately, that would not be only injury the Mets would endure, as Daniel Murphy left the game with a seemingly major knee injury in the seventh.

The Braves would stike first on a Jason Heyward home run in the top of the second, however the Mets would answer when Dillon Gee helped his own cause with a RBI single tie the game and Willie Harris would put the Mets ahead 2-1 with a single of his own.

From there on out it was all Braves. Michael Bourn came home on fielders choice in the fourth before Alex Gonzalez and Jose Constanza would break the game open a bit an inning later with back to back home runs.

The Mets would get two back in their half of the sixth thanks in part to an error on Jose Constanza and a pair of two-out hits. First Daniel Murphy would hit a 75 foot infield single to score Jason Bay and a seeing eye single by Willie Harris to drive in Nick Evans.

Following the emotional let down of Murphy's injury in the seventh, the Mets once again strung together a pair of two-out hits in the bottom of the inning. After Jason Bay singled and stole second, Angel Pagan snuck a drooping line drive under the glove of Martin Prado to drive Bay in and tie the game at 5.

The Mets would ultimately be undone by Chipper Jones who singled in the go ahead run in the top of the ninth to put the Braves up 6-5. The Mets could not answer in the bottom of the inning despite a lead off single by Jason Bay to lead off the bottom of the ninth and they would go on to drop a very tough, very costly rubber match.

The Mets will send Mike Pelfrey (6-9) to the mound tomorrow night against Tim Stauffer (7-8) when the San Diego Padres comes to town for the first of four at Citi Field.
