Pre-Game 109: Florida Marlins @ New York Mets

The New York Mets(55-53) will look to start their 10 game home stand on the right foot tonight as they welcome the Florida Marlins(53-55) to town at 7:10 PM ET, weather permitting.

Mike Pelfrey(6-9, 4.55 ERA) will look to pick up his second consecutive victory coming off of a masterful performance in Cincinnati in which he pitched his second complete game of the year. The year has been a struggle for Pelfrey, but with the Mets now sitting 7 1/2 games out of the Wild Card leading Atlanta Braves, Pelfrey need another big game performance tonight against a National League East rival. In his career, Pelfrey hasn't had much success against the Florida Marlins, most recently allowing a grand slam to John Buck during the first game of the season to put the game out of reach for the Mets. Pelfrey has a lifetime 5.29 ERA against the Fish in 15 starts, and it will be imperative to his success that he manages to get Omar Infante out. Infante has dominated Pelfrey, collecting 13 hits in 25 at bats.

Javier Vazquez(7-9, 5.10) has begun to put things back in order for himself lately after having the highest ERA in the National League for the first several months of the season. Vazquez is coming off of a very good start against the Washington Nationals in which he allowed just 1 run in 7 innings of work. In 26 career starts against the Mets, Vazquez carries an impressive 3.33 ERA, a slightly inflated number that reflects a blowout outing that the Mets delivered during the first series of the season.
