Pre-Game 111: Florida Marlins @ New York Mets

The New York Mets(55-55) will look to avoid being swept by the Florida Marlins(55-55) tonight at 7:10 PM ET at Citi Field. Coming off of a highly successful road trip in which they swept the Cincinnati Reds in a 4 game series, the Mets have been unable to capitalize coming back to their home turf, putting themselves in positions to win on two consecutive nights before costly defensive mishaps turned the tides.

Dillon Gee(10-3, 3.69 ERA) will face the Florida Marlins for the 2nd time in his last 3 starts. On July 24th, Gee allowed 3 runs over 5 innings but was pushed against the wall several times during the start, describing the outing as a "dog fight". This time around, Gee is coming off of a strong start against the Washington Nationals in which he picked up his 10th win of the year, pitching 6 2/3 effective innings, allowing only 2 runs.

Clay Hensley(1-3, 3.09 ERA) will make his 3rd start against the Mets since July 18th, having stymied the Mets the first outing(5 scoreless innings), before the Mets managed to break through during his next start(5 innings, 2 runs). Hensley pitched well during his last start against the Atlanta Braves, throwing 7 innings of 3 run ball, but suffered an unfortunate loss.

The New York Mets will have an off day tomorrow before heading into what will be a season determining series against the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. A win tonight will position the Mets to remain on pace with the Atlanta Braves, who are currently leading the Washington Nationals 6-4 in the 8th inning.
