Pre-Game 113: Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets

The New York Mets(55-56) are hanging on by a thread to a largely mediocre season and will look to avoid losing their 6th straight game as the Wild Card leading Atlanta Braves(65-48) will look to put the final nails in the Mets coffin.

Jonathan Niese(10-8, 3.94 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets tonight as he looks to build on his solid outing in Washington on July 31st in which he lasted on 5 1/3 innings but allowed only 2 runs on 8 hits. Niese hasn't fared as well since the All Star break and could be tiring once again late into the season, posting a 4.24 ERA thus far in the second half. Perhaps a positive is that Niese has pitched to the tune of a 3.24 ERA at Citi Field this year, a place he'll need a big performance tonight.

Tommy Hanson(11-6, 3.20 ERA) will look to continue his hugely successful season against the Mets, having struck out at least 6 batters in 9 of his last 10 starts, including a 14 strikeout performance against the Houston Astros in early June. While Hanson's dominance has come as a result of maturity, he has performed exceptionally during night games, posting a 2.85 ERA in 13 starts. The Mets haven't found much success against Hanson, but Jose Reyes and Josh Thole both have 5 hits against the southpaw.
