Pre-Game 115: San Diego Padres @ New York Mets

The snake bitten New York Mets(56-57) will play their first series all year without Daniel Murphy on the active roster tonight as they welcome the San Diego Padres(51-64) to town to open a 4 game series.

The season ending MCL tear compiled with a left hamstring issue landed both Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy on the disabled list this afternoon following comprehensive evaluations, although Murphy's status was known more or less from the outset of his injury. Replacing them on the 25-man roster will be Ruben Tejada and Mike Baxter. Baxter was claimed off of waivers from the San Diego Padres earlier this season and has a total of 9 major league at bats, collecting 1 hit. The 26 year old will look to have his first extended shot in the big leagues count as the Mets will begin evaluating the talent pool they have heading into 2012 and beyond.

Mike Pelfrey(6-9, 4.48 ERA) will take the bump for the Metropolitans tonight coming off of a no decision against the Florida Marlins in which Pelfrey went 6 innings, allowing only 2 runs. Pelfrey has been rolling as of late, pitching to a 3.48 ERA over his last 10 startsand a 4.15 ERA after the All Star Break. Pelfrey has enjoyed pitching at Citi Field as well, posting a 3.32 ERA in 9 starts.

Tim Stauffer( 7-8, 2.96 ERA) has silently been one of the more impressive pitchers in the league this year despite not having the record to prove so. The 29 year old out of Richmond has made 23 starts and has pitched to an impressive 1.24 WHIP. While Stauffer has enjoyed Petco Park, his ERA away from home is most impressive as well at just a touch above 3.
