Pre-Game 118: New York Mets(58-59) @ Arizona Diamondbacks(65-53)

The New York Mets will open up a 6 game west coast swing tonight as they look to cool off the sweltering hot, first place Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field tonight at 9:40 PM ET.

After completing their most recent home stand 3-6 and falling 10.5 games behind the Wild Card leading Atlanta Braves, Terry Collins noted yesterday afternoon following the Mets late inning loss that he was "done giving speeches". Injuries to the Mets core have rendered them out of contention and barring a comeback of historic proportions will now be auditioning for next year.

Dillon Gee(10-3, 3.93 ERA) will look to topple the Diamondbacks tonight, pitching at Chase Field for the first time in his career. Gee struggled against the Diamondbacks at Citi Field on April 23rd this year, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings despite picking up the victory. Coming off of a rough start against the Atlanta Braves in which Gee allowed 5 runs in 5 innings en route to a no decision, he'll look to get it together.

Ian Kennedy(14-3, 3.20 ERA) has emerged as an ace for the Arizona Diamondbacks this year and has really stepped it up in the snake's chase for first place, having pitched to a 2.31 ERA. Kennedy has been especially dominate in night starts, posting a 2.94 ERA in 19 starts. Kennedy picked up his 14th win of the year during his last outing in Los Angeles, pitching 7 innings and limiting the Dodgers to 3 runs.
