Pre-Game: Game 117 - San Diego Padres VS New York Mets


The Mets will conclude their 4 game series with the Padres this afternoon at 12:10PM. After two nice come from behind wins, the Mets dropped the last night's game in ugly fashion as played terrible defense and had several mental lapses and miscues. They will look to move above the .500 mark once again today as they send left-hander Jon Niese to the hill.

Jon Niese (11-8, 4.12) has won two of his last three starts overall, including an 11-7 victory over Atlanta on Saturday in which he gave up five runs and 10 hits over five innings. In his lone career start against SD,the left-hander pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks for his first career complete game in the Mets' 1-0 home win June 10, 2010.

Cory Luebke (4-6, 3.06) will take the hill for the Padres. The rookie has pitched will since his promotion from the minors. He is coming off the best start of his rookie campaign as the left-hander struck out a career-high nine while giving up one run and five hits over seven innings of Saturday's 13-2 win over the Pirates.
