Who are the three guys I would invite...

Ok, here is the game: based on what is already on the roster what three players would I sign to minor league deals with an invite to spring training.  The player has to be realistically willing to accept a minor league deal with the Mets...

My first pick would be Ross Ohlendorf  the 29 y/o right hander had two solid years as a starter for the Pirates, prior to that he was used as a reliever for two seasons by the Yanks.  He knows the pressure of playing in NY while his value is down after posting an 8.15 ERA in Pitt. last year while only making nine starts.  The Mets wouldn't  have much competition signing him and could tuck him away in Buffalo, then call him up as a starter or reliever.

Number two would be Mark Teahen, the bench needs a left handed bat and Teahen can play everywhere except catcher, center and short.  I know he only hit .200 last year but that's exactly why he could fall to the Mets on a minor league deal, beside Depo drafted him in 2002.  In just 2009 he played five positions as a left handed hitter and batted .271 with 12 HRs, 34 doubles and 50 RBIs.

My final pick would be Brian Tallet; again rem. the game, it's not only who will sign a minor league deal but who will sign with the lowly Mets. Last year was basically an injury wash for the lefty which is why he might be available, but the year before might be why I'd give him a chance.  In 2010 in the tough Al East as a Blue Jay Tallet as a reliever held left handed batters to a .176 BAA with a 4.67 SO/BB ratio while making five starts in which he posted a better ERA then as a reliever.

None of them may work out but of the list of players who are left these are the three I think would fit the Mets needs, would be willing to sign a minor league deal with the Mets and could end up contributing to the team at some point in the season...
