Mets Players Are Issued Underdog T-Shirts

"We Don't Rebuild We Reload".."Go Hard Or Go Home"..Those are slogans on t-shirts that we wore for my high school baseball team.  But this isn't high school, is it?  Its also not a Friday night beer league or a movie.  This is professional baseball and its about time the Mets organization, from head to toe, starts acting like it!

These shirts were issued to the Mets players today by none other than Jeff Wilpon.  Yes, the son of embattled owner Fred Wilpon apparently thought it would be funny to give his own players, the one who comprise his $90 million dollar payroll, a shirt that basically says "on paper, we suck".

It has gotten to the point where I'm convinced that the Wilpons simply do not care about their public image.  Public relations has long been an issue for the Mets, but they're taken it to new heights over the past few seasons.  The Wilpons actions, or lack there of, which have lead to the team's financial disarray have provided us with plenty of Wilponesque headlines.  I don't need to see this garbage on the back page of every major New York newspaper tomorrow morning.

This isn't about motivation either.  Everyone involved in the organization has been dropping hints all off-season that this team is going to struggle.  I need you to tell me that about as much as I need you to rub my nose in it with this immature t-shirt.  Plain and simple, just shut up and get ready for the 2012 season, because your going to have your hands full.

I know there are a variety of different opinions on this matter (some of which you can see here at The Ropolitans) and there are fans who think its okay for the team to poke fun at themselves since thats all the fans do, but this is different.  I pay hard earned money each year to endure this crap and its for that reason that I have the right to poke fun at the team.  I don't need the team to do it for me.  Just get ready to go play baseball and give Mets fans something they can be proud of..for a change!
