Johan Santana successfully completed his fourth bullpen session this morning and remains on track to start the Mets second spring training game on March 6th. The quirk to this morning session was that he was to simulate pitching two innings by throwing several pitches, sitting down for a period of time and then return to the mound for a second session.
All in all, as reported by ESPN's Adam Rubin, Santana threw 32 pitches for effect and a total of 73 throws to include his warmups. Santana appeared to be in good spirits as he commented on his handiwork and smiled for the cameras during the session.
Looking into the future, Mets manager Terry Collins said he expects Johan to long toss on March 1st, followed by a live bullpen session against Mets hitters on the 2nd in preparation for his start on the 6th.
