Scott Hairston didn't play a game last season after August 23rd due to an oblique injury. The injury has become common place in baseball but the recovery time is extremely unpredictable. Hairston has a violent swing once he injured the oblique there's no telling when it will heal and it's probably even easier to re-injure.
Scott Hairston strained the same left oblique muscle that prompted him to finish last season on the disabled list, the outfielder said. Hairston, who suffered the injury swinging in the first inning of Saturday's intrasquad game, expects to receive a cortisone shot Monday. source ESPN NY
