Mets' first baseman, Ike Davis, will get the night off tonight when the Mets take on Nationals lefty, Ross Detwiler. Ike, who historically struggles against left-handed pitching, is yet to collect a hit this season. He acknowledged that this is probably a good decision by manager, Terry Collins, and also time to get Justin Turner, who will start in his place, some at bats.
Another part of the equation used to sit Ike tonight is that he needs enough rest to prevent the onset of Valley Fever symptoms. Ike will see doctors this morning for what is being considered a routine checkup. Davis has stated that he remains symptom free, but the checkup is part of the process for managing the disease.
