Mets manager, Terry Collins, stated yesterday that Johan Santana will be limited to 85-90 pitches this afternoon. This news should come as no real surprise to anyone.
First and foremost, Santana topped out at 88 pitches this spring meaning it would be unlikely for him to exceed that number by much anyway. Furthermore, this will be the first time he throws in a Major League game in over 18 months. Its fair to suggest that the emotion and adrenaline of the day could prematurely tire the Mets ace anyway.
Ultimately, should he pitch well it will likely be with efficiency. Ninety pitches could easily see Santana pitch into the six or even seventh inning. However, at the end of the day regardless of what his pitch count or even the results might be, I think we can all agree that we want to see a healthy Santana walk off that mound.
Let's Go Mets!!!
